The Backstory

The Backstory

A friend of mine reached out to me and told me that she just purchased a new car. I was beyond ecstatic for her! See, I knew everything she had gone through to get to that point. There were a lot of ups and downs, but she made it through. She also decided to share her blessing with a colleague at work whose response was one of jealousy and selfishness. When she shared this with me I started to think about the concept of backstories. As Christians, as people period, when someone shares uplifting news that will positively impact their lives we should co-sign on God’s blessing with a positive confirmation. When someone hears “That’s amazing” or “I’m so happy for you” in those situations, it’s simply God in you and using you to uplift that person because they have a backstory.

Maybe they’ve never owned a car, maybe they’ve been walking 3 miles to work every day, or maybe the car they just paid off is irreparable. I’ve noticed sometimes we as humans are so quick to judge without knowing all of the details. Often when we find out those details, guilt settles in because now you can understand why this person feels so happy and blessed. We can’t truly confess our love for Christ if we don’t truly and with all of our heart order our steps in his word. Our God is a giving God. We have to love and uplift everyone as he does every day. God says in Luke 6:38 that, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” With all sincerity we must be happy for others. God has ensured in doing so our blessings will be more than the human mind could ever imagine. Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work”. So instead of focusing on what we don’t have, let’s see the glory in the blessings of others even if they aren’t our own. Those are the moments we get to witness and confirm our God is in the business of giving.

Love x Blessings,
